Pyometra
This is an accumulation of pus within the uterus and is only occasionally seen in ferrets. When it does occur it is immediately after the start of a pseudo pregnancy. Organisms responsible for this condition in ferrets include Steptococcus, Staphylococcus, E Coli and Corynebacterium.
Affected ferrets will be anorexic, lethargic and will often have a fever. Medical attention must be sought immediately as the uterus may rupture.
