Ticks
Ticks are rather more difficult to deal with than fleas, but they do respond to some sprays and powders, althought these are normally only available from veterinary surgeons. Care must be taken to ensure that the mouth part of the ticks are completely removed from the ferret's skin otherwise infection and abscesses can occur; never simply pull ticks out.
Paint surgical spirit on the tick using a fine paint brush and the tick should have died and dropped off within 24 hours; if not simply repeat the process. There are now a number of devices on the market which have been specifically designed to remove ticks, due mainly to concern regarding Lyme's disease in humans, and these are recommended.
