Zinc Toxicity
Ferrets cannot tolerate high levels of zinc and may become ill through the use of galvanised feeding dishes. Symptoms include anemia, lethargy and weakness of the hing legs; liver and kidney failure can quickly follow so all suspected cases should be referred to a veterinary surgeon as soon as possible.
Unfortunately there is no actual treatment and affected animals are unlikely to recover. It is common for vets to advise euthenasia for affected ferrets to avoid undue suffering.
