Well I thought I had better say a few words about myself, I was introduced to the ferret world by my sister who has in the past run an unofficial rescue centre in Ramsgate. My daughter, who had a serious operation on her spine asked if she could have a ferret as a pet. My wife and I didn't see any problems with that and in conjunction with my sister worked out when a litter was due in order that we could get my daughter her ferret.
Time went by and after a short while a litter arrived and we took my daughter to meet my sister at a country show to choose the lucky little furry. When we saw them she decided that she had to have two as one would keep the other one company, well it didn't stop there because I found one I liked and by the end of the day we came away with three.
After keeping them in doors for a while, not a good idea I hasten to add, a large cage was built and the three of them were given pride of place outside the back kitchen door where we could enjoy their antics. Some time passed and my sister then got in touch to say that a jill of hers had just had nine kits and would we like some, well this time my son decided he wanted one and we inherited another. It doesn't stop there because more babies arrived and now we are the proud owners of six.
I have since became hooked on these wonderful animals, however I was appauled to find after reading so many web pages and articles that these small creatures are subject to so much cruelty and abuse. As a result I decided to put together this web site with a view to making it a reference point to aid anyone who wanted to find out about keeping a ferret and what to expect.
Its not been an easy task as the ferret community seem to be a close knit circle. I hope all who use this site will find it useful and will through the use of the referenced material and links be able to answer whatever questions they may have. If not I have made available a forum facility for people to use and communicate with other ferret owners who may have far more experience with these animals than I do at the moment.
